The Best and Affordable Way to Remove Eye Makeup

By Seara Kranh

Removing eye makeup is just as, or even more, important as putting it on.  Whatever makeup removal routine it is, women need to consider what stress they are putting their eyes through. We all heard the saying about how eyes are the window to the soul. Eyes do tell a lot about a person and they only speak one language. Take care of the eyes with gentleness and it will help prolong youth of appearance and put off old age.

One very inexpensive and gentle product that can thoroughly remove eye makeup is baby oil. Plus, it can be found in almost any grocery or drug stores!

Baby oil is not only cheap; it moisturizes the skin and it is hypoallergenic which should reduce the chance of irritating the eyes or needing to scrub off stubborn makeup. Scrubbing off eye makeup is a huge factor in developing wrinkles later on in life. Always remember the less pressure and scrubbing the better they are for the eyes.

Another great thing about baby oil is that it can be used to clean just around the eyes and be able to focus on the eye makeup alone rather than washing the entire face. Baby oil is probably the most natural product out on the market for makeup removal. It doesn’t sting if it gets in the eyes as a chemical based product will for sure. Over time using baby oil will keep the skin around the eyes soft and supple.

Simple procedures:

Douse a cotton ball or even just a wad of tissue in baby oil and rub it on the eyes and lashes. A q-tip works great for getting right down to the lash’s roots. After the first initial coverage of baby oil continue wiping the makeup off until it’s completely off without adding additional oil if it isn’t necessary.

However, if applying pressure to remove the makeup is necessary, then add just a bit more baby oil. To reduce the greasy feeling the oil leaves behind, just pat some water on the eyes and pat dry with a clean towel. Baby oil will remove any sort of eyeliner, mascara, or eyeshadow even if it’s waterproof.

Doing a little bit of care taking now will save cash and beauty later.

  • Watch out for pigment colors listed as “rare,” as these are often fakes.
  • On the bottom of the box there should be a bar code label printed on a sticker. If the bar code is printed directly onto the bottom of the box then the product is a fake.
  • There should be a black round sticker on the top right hand corner of the box with the name of the color on it. Fake pigments often place the sticker closer to the front.
  • The pigment jar should have a small circle sticker on the bottom, and that sticker should have the colors name printed on it. Above the name of the pigment there should be a name and number code, fake MAC pigments are known to only have the numbers and not the color name.
  • The pigment itself should be sealed by a protective lid. There should not be a hole in the middle to pour the pigment from.
  • Fake MAC pigment is not the same high quality of authentic MAC pigment. While the authentic product will leave a rich and vibrant color on your skin with just a little, the fakes are often dull and rub off easily. MAC pigment should not rub off easily.
  • When buying cosmetics online, buyer beware! Look out for luxury goods at cheap prices. Be smart and Google how to spot a fake of the particular product you are purchasing before you make a decision.
  • Note: MAC has updated their pigment containers, newer pigments look like this:

Always remember the saying ‘you get what you pay for’. MAC Pigments are of high quality and last for a very long time if used properly, and they can be slightly expensive.
